CFLA student, Malak B., recently traveled to North Carolina to participate in an Outward Bound course. Here’s what he had to share about his experience, and we’re so proud of his accomplishments:
“During this course so many challenges were thrown at me pushing me out of my comfort zone. The challenges varied from reading the rocks in the river that you couldn’t see from the surface while white water canoeing, hiking 2 miles up mountains while carrying 80 pounds on my back and with no navigational help from the instructors, setting up camp all by ourselves, to learning how to properly use the bathroom in the woods. There were a lot of challenges but I, along with all other 10 kids, were able to complete the course successfully. This gave me the biggest boost in my confidence I’ve ever had because I would never have guessed I would be able to hike 2 miles carrying 80 pounds or run 7 miles in 1 hour and 40 minutes while healing from a blister on my foot.
I am extremely happy that I was able to participate and complete this course! I learned multiple life skills, some as simple as the true meaning of perseverance. I will never give up on challenging tasks from this point on because this course has shown me that I can do it. ”
